Why KRIM™ exists

In many kidnaps, the issue is not only the incident itself. It is the lack of organisational knowledge, structure, and expertise to respond effectively.

There are specialist insurance policies designed to support organisations in kidnap incidents (not against kidnap itself, but relating to ransom payment). If an organisation holds this cover and activates the policy, a specialist security firm can deploy a trained responder to support them through the incident.

However, Kidnap and Extortion insurance is expensive. Most humanitarian organisations and the majority of corporate organisations do not have it.

KRIM™ was written to address that knowledge gap, and to provide organisations without insurance cover the capability to understand and effectively manage a kidnap for ransom incident.

What the programme covers

KRIM™ looks at the full incident lifecycle and the realities of managing multiple stakeholders in high pressure, high consequence environments.

The programme includes:

  • International legal frameworks relevant to kidnap response

  • Managing stakeholder complexity (family, hostage takers, law enforcement, government, media)

  • Decision-making, consequence management and organisational coordination

  • Response from initial report through to recovery and debrief

  • Live workshops and a simulation designed to embed learning under realistic pressure.

Who KRIM™ is designed for

KRIM™ is designed for:

  • Humanitarian organisations and NGOs

  • Government agencies and diplomatic services

  • Corporate entities operating in high risk environments

  • Crisis management teams and global security professionals

  • Organisations who have not engaged with specialist insurance providers and responder support, or are unable to engage with them.

The challenges organisations face before KRIM™

The predominant challenge is a lack of knowledge of how to navigate a kidnap incident effectively.

Even where organisations have experienced kidnappings of in-country staff, corporate knowledge is often limited, fragmented, or not embedded. Some organisations have had no formal training; others feel their in-house training is insufficient to create confidence or provide a clear structure for response.

KRIM™ exists to provide that structure, and the skillset to apply it.

How the programme works

KRIM™ is delivered online over 3 months:

  • 8 weeks of self-paced learning modules

  • 4 weeks of live workshops and a simulation exercise

  • 3 examination phases across the programme

  • Completion is pass/fail

Successful completion leads to a Level 6 (BA) accreditation in kidnap management from Highfield International, an accrediting body within the security industry.
